Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford is an American actress singer and dancer. Her first Broadway performances, she starred the role of Essie Carmichael in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. Her role as Essie Carmahiel in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel was rewarded with an award for the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actor in the Play. Annaleigh is a Tony Award winning actress and director, has spent the majority of her career working alongside famous directors and actors both in film and on television. Ashford in the near future will play opposite Kumail in Robert Siegel's exclusive Hulu series Welcome to Chippendales which premieres November 22. Ashford's upcoming project includes the Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust, starring alongside Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. The film will be available through Disney's DTC platforms as a Hulu Original. It will be released in 2023, March. Ashford returns to Broadway and will be starring alongside Josh Groban in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail as director and Jeffrey Seller as producer will form the team of creators for the show. Ashford played Paula Jones, the main role in Ryan Murphy's latest FX series American Crime Story Impeachment. It is based upon the impeachment crisis that swept Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp along with other key characters in the first impeachment trial in the United States in more than a century. She was the star of two seasons of CBS comedy B Positive. It was co-produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. It featured Linda lavin as well as Hector Elizondo as well as Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her portrayal of Essie on You Can't Take It with You earned her Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She has also performed on Broadway on Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde as well as the original role as Lauren In Kinky Boots for which she received a nomination for a Tony Award. Ashford is an Denver resident who splits her time between Los Angeles.
